The IE-007 Gran Vega de Sevilla trail crosses land between the city of Seville and the provice of Córdoba, on a wide valle between Sierra Morena and the Sevillan countryside where a great variety of ecosystems converge: plain, countryside, and mountains.

The Guadalquivir River is the backbone of the territory and key actor in its history. It is no coincidence that it motivated the settlement of different cultures: Tartessians, Turdetanos, Romans, Visigoths, Muslims and Castillians. Thus, the region has a rich artistic heritage and its own personality, making a variety of tourist activities possible: cultural, natural, and active.

During the itinerary one sees many monuments, ethnographically interesting celebrations (mainly linked to the romerías and Holy Week) and excellent gastronomy; although historically, archaeology and mining are the factors that set this area apart, as seen with the Roman city of Mulva–Munigua.

Route

Between Guillena and Lagos del Serrano, the route crosses a wonderful landscape of meadows and water, as the horse riding route coincides in a section with the Ruta del Agua. We'll find two Canadian paths, although as an easier alternative it is possible to take the path called la Cruz de la Mujer, which is parallel to the IE.

The itinerary linking La Algaba with Guillena runs along Río Ribera de Huelva and–like the route between Torre de la Reina and Alcalá del Río–passes along typical Andalusian farmhouses, cultivated fields, and orchards. In the rainy season it is advisable to take an alternative stretch to the causeway crossing Río Huelva–900 metres on the A460–, as the latter may be flooded.

Upon leaving Alcalá, we head toward Villaverde del Río and, later, to Cantillana, on an itinerary without noteworthy difficulties, given that all complicated sections feature a comfortable alternative.

We rejoin the equestrian route in Villanueva del Río y Minas (due to a stretch without signposting), continuing along cultivated fields, orchards, streams, etc., enjoying a spectacular view of the mountains. The route runs in parallel to the GuadalquivirRiver, crossing olive groves, gallery forests, and orchards until Lora del Río, enjoying the characteristic landscape of the foothills.

The section between Lora del Río and Peñaflor will end our route, allowing us to enjoy the beautiful riverbank growth of the area.

Type of Trail: Linear. Status of the route: Approved and signposted (except one stretch between Cantillana and Villanueva del Río y Minas). Total length: 100 km. Starting point: La Cantina (Guillena). Finishing point: Peñaflor
