The fact that, ecclesiastically, Huelva depended on the Archbishop of Seville greatly marked its architecture, which reaped the benefits of repairs and new buildings put up after the Lisbon earthquake in 1755.

One main feature are various towers with tile-covered spires. The principal craftsmen were the Maestro Mayor of the Archbishopric Pedro de Silva and the local master builder F. Díaz Pinto. The more outstanding things to see in Huelva are the Church of La Merced (Cathedral), and the towers of La Concepción and San Pedro.

In Moguer, you can see the Church of Santa María de la Granada and the altarpiece in the Convent of Santa Clara. In Trigueros, notice the reforms and tower of the Church of San Antón. The Church of San Juan Bautista in La Palma del Condado is the most significant building on this tour, that may be completed with a visit to the parish churches of Bollullos del Condado and Almonte.
