Linares-La Carolina Mining District
The proposed cultural route looks at the richness and complexity of such an important hereditary reality as the mining connection in Andalusia, specifically that of the territory which includes the old mining district of Linares - La Carolina, in Jaén.
Amongst the factors that help to demonstrate the importance of cultural heritage related to mining activity in the area, the industrial buildings themselves —some of which are not to be found anywhere else in the world— are definitive.
The heritage proposed by this route, which is chronologically set in the contemporary period —from the second half of the 19th century until well into the 20th century— and runs through the Jaén towns of Linares and La Carolina and ends in the town of El Centenillo,Baños de la Encina, must be valued not only for its uniqueness or aesthetic value but as areas of memory they should be used as a nexus between the past, present and future.
