Dehesas del Camarate

La Dehesa del Camarate is one of the most beautiful spots in Sierra Nevada National Park, a veritable treasure of botanical gems preserved from human intervention.

La Dehesa del Camarate has become an exceptional place to enjoy "autumn" and its spectacle of colours which attracts hikers from many places, naturalists and photographers every year. It is located on the northern slope of the massif, in the municipality of Lugros. Thanks to the abundance of water and the way it is facing, the biodiversity is amazing. In this veritable treasure of botanical gems there are numerous species of deciduous trees and shrubs that create many different kinds of landscapes.

On La Dehesa del Camarate path, which runs along a forest track, you can visit the headwaters of the Alhama River and cross an oak forest, dotted with wild cherry trees, maples, ash trees, whitebeams, willows and gall oaks, which in autumn display a wide range of colours.

The route begins at Horcajo, goes up the cobbled path, crosses the reserve area and offers views as you climb.

After almost 5 km the route ends at the bullring, the farm's old livestock infrastructure, now disused.

Public use and access is now regulated due to the great influx of visitors to La Dehesa del Camarate on certain dates of the year, especially at weekends and on public holidays. This regulation enables visitors to enjoy this special place that is designated a reserve area in the Sierra Nevada National Park.
