The Puntalillo beach is approximately 1,457 metres long, extending from the Litoral Interpretation Centre to the Hotel Playa de la Luz. It is an established urban beach located in the completely natural surroundings of the dunes.
The Dunes play an important role in maintaining the sand of the Puntalillo beach, forming part of the pine grove and dune coastal system. The Coastal pine is the most important wooded area Rota has, with an important ecological value.

These conditions make this an unspoilt region. With regard to urban planning, there are two very important places devoted to the environment; the Litoral Interpretation Centre and the Celestino Mutis Botanical Gardens. The Rota Town Hall puts in continual and notable human and economic resources to maintain the quality of this beach, especially its environmental and ecological aspects so as the public can really enjoy it.
