Bodegas El Gato
Bodegas El Gato, a family business since 1957, is located in the old part of the town of Rota, a coastal village on the Cadiz coast. Juan Martínez Martín-Niño “El Gato”, along with his family, perform this beautiful artisan work, taking the utmost care in the tradition of preparing their wines, from the vineyard to the bottling.
At their installations, they produce and bottle dry sherries, moscatel, creams, Pedro Ximénez, oloroso and Tintilla de Rota, a wine from this town. Their wines are distinguishable on the market under the brands "El Mayeto and J. Martínez”.
On the tour around Bodegas El Gato, one of the professionals will guide you through the facilities to explain the process to you of making wine from the Marco de Jerez. The tour becomes a journey into the past, because it is the only cellar in the historic centre of Rota in operation. Visitors can see a small laboratory, the barrels that preserve a good part of the wine, an old and very rudimentary bottling plant that still works, and the most special and outstanding area of the winery: “La Sacristía", where the oldest and most prized wines are kept.
