Bodega Kieninger
Bodega Kieninger began its project in the year 2000 when it brought 4,000 vines from Austria, which were planted on an estate in the foothills of the Sierra de Cumbres mountains, in Ronda.
Work in the fields and the winery follows the strictest criteria for organic production and agriculture: all the vineyards are surrounded by a natural hedge of pomegranate, quince and hawthorn trees and blackberry bushes that provide shelter for the different insects and microorganisms, thus creating an ideal natural balance for avoiding the proliferation of pests and illnesses.
Ageing takes place in high-quality oak barrels for a period ranging between six and twenty months. This ageing process is in an underground cellar with stone walls and a vaulted ceiling.
Tours to Bodega Kieninger are guided by the owner of property, wine maker Martin Kieninger, and they include a guided tour through the vineyards, the visit to the production and ageing rooms, with an explanation of the process for the production and ageing of the wine, and they end with a tasting of three of the wines with cheese and bread.
An appointment should be requested 3 days in advance. Martin speaks Spanish, English and German (mother tongue). Maximum of 20 people per tour group. The cost of the tour is €60.50 for up to 4 people. For over 5 people, the cost is €14.50/person.
