It is an outstanding example of late 19th-century industrial architecture. Built in 1897 by local architect Rodrigo García, it originally housed the "La Aurora" electricity factory, which made Puente Genil the first town in Andalusia and the second in Spain, after Barcelona, to have electricity. 

The building retains its tall chimney, visible from Capitán de Corbeta Reina Carvajal Street, and is one of the three most notable buildings in the centre of the Isla neighbourhood, along with the Teatro-Circo and the Ermita del Dulce Nombre.
