Museo arqueológico-etnográfico
The Municipal Museum of Puebla de Don Fadrique is located in the old Town Hall, a historic building in the municipality located in the Church Square. Its theme is archaeology and ethnography, where the Easter Fiesta, most emblematic fiesta in the district, declared in 2009 as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia, is outstanding.
In the Archaeology room, you can take a journey through prehistory and History with an innovative thematic approach: society, technology, architecture and urban planning, and beliefs. Here, you can enjoy a virtual visit to the Wheat Hill Roman Camp site, an archeological site of more than one hectare founded in 100 BC to organise the new territory of Bugéjar after the destruction and subsequent abandonment of two main Iberian cities in the area, Arkilakis and that located in the Cerro de la Cruz. The function of the camp consisted mainly of maintaining the control over the Heraclea route in this area, but it was abandoned with the creation of the Augusta route.
The museum has three rooms: one dedicated to the festival of the souls, another centred on local ethnography, and finally, an archaeological room.
The methods are varied, combining the best of old techniques (panels, display cases and models) with the latest elements in the new museums (audiovisual, virtual reconstructions, animated games), all adapted to different audiences, with translations of printed texts in English.
