Museo Histórico Municipal de Priego de Córdoba
The Municipal History Museum is the oldest of Priego's museums, and first opened in 1983. Its current site in the Adolfo Lozano Sidro Cultural Centre is provisional, as the institution is scheduled to be moved to its definitive site in the mill building known as the Molino de los Montoro, very near the city castle. The museum also houses the Municipal Archaeology Museum, which since 1989 has been responsible for Priego's rich archaeological heritage, involving a series of different functions and activities.
The museum has a spectacular collection, both with regards its quality and quantity, although only a small percentage of the items are presently on display. The museum's collection has been significantly increased by the archaeological excavations carried out by the institution, both in the centre of the town and in other parts of the district, as well as by donations from private collections, particularly in the case of its prehistoric and medieval assets. Future plans include an Ethnography section featuring numerous items from the Marcos Campos collection, one of the most important in Andalusia.
