Peñaflor
Beautiful village on the right bank of the Guadalquivir, located in the eastern part of the province, at the limit with the province of Córdoba. Its landscape comprises the mountains of the north, neighbouring the Sierra de Hornachuelos; and the valleys of the south.
There still exist remains of the ancient Roman city"s port pier, at which boats transporting silver from Córdoba docked. The village also has some interesting monuments, such as the Church of San Pedro, the Convent of San Luis and the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación.
History
Its origins date back to Roman times, and may have been the ancient Celti, according to some historians. A large number of remains from that period have been found in the village and its surroundings, including baths, aqueducts, a dock along the Guadalquivir river, an oil mill, a family pantheon and some inlaid work in village buildings.Eminent citizens
