Pastora Rojas Monje was born in Sevilla in 1888 died in Madrid in 1979 Her mother was the dancer and signer Rosario la Mejorana from Cádiz and her father the guitarist Víctor Rojas At the age of twelve her family moved to Madrid, where she began to frequent Café de la Marina She took her first classes from Isabel Santos until debuting in the El Japonés hall in calle de Alcalá in 1904 From here she went to Actualidades She married the bullfighter Rafael el Gallo, something which gave her more fame than she already had, but the marriage only lasted some months She inspired poets and painters like Julio Romero de Torres and made numerous films History contemplates her as one of the greatest dancers who has ever existed
