A walk through Las Delicias: A Route through El Higueral and El Corvo
In Palma del Río, the route known as A walk through Las Delicias: A Route through El Higueral and El Corvo is only available with prior organisation by the Palma del Río Tourist Office, because authorisation is required from owners of private land.
The route starts at the Tourist Office, in the Plaza Mayor in Andalusia, where we can appreciate the two gateways through the Almohad wall (Puerta del Sol and the Puerta de Las Angustias) and a number of towers. The route continues through the orange groves belonging to the ancient estates of El Higueral, El Corvo and Las Delicias, where you'll see vegetable gardens and orange groves, some very old and some more recent. You'll also see a number of species of small birds (goldfinches, sparrows, greenfinches, Des Murs's wiretail, etc.)., rabbits and hares.
When we are close to the banks of the Guadalquivir, we'll be able to see how the Retortillo River flows into the Guadalquivir. The most important point on this route is the confluence of the two great Andalusian rivers, the Guadalquivir and the Genil, where you can observe an abundance of water birds and the two large islands in the river.
The path returns to Palma del Río still surrounded by orange trees and ends on the pedestrian street of San Nicolás, where the lookout point provides a magnificent view of the valley.
