Situated in the municipality of Padul, close to Padul Lake, the Route of the Mammoth is an easy circular walk.

As remains of a mammoth were unearthed in this municipality, this prehistoric animal has become the image of the town and now it is known as Villa del Mamut (Town of the Mammoth). This path was created a few years ago and is without doubt the safest and most environmentally-friendly way of exploring the area surrounding Padul Lake.

It is an easy path with wooden panels and accessible for people with disabilities. It is the perfect place to enjoy a walk with the family. Along the path there are tamarisks, willows and giant reeds, and the wide variety of birds living in the lake is one of the main attractions in this natural setting.

You should begin the route at Jardines de la Estación gardens, next to Padul Town Hall, where there is a large area to park the car. A series of monoliths with the three prehistoric animals lead you to the path you want. The routes start in the town and take you to the country. This way you can also explore the streets and meet the people in this charming town.

On the three prehistoric routes, (the Route of the Mammoth, the Route of the Woolly Rhinoceros and the Route of the Sabre-toothed Cat) you shouldn't miss El Aguadero Nature Centre, where you can get information on local flora and fauna. On the route there are also several hides and the Mammoth Viewpoint, which affords a spectacular view of the area and the vast extension of reeds.

Type of path: circular. Path condition: signposted in 2015. Total length: 8.26 km. Accessibility: it can be done on foot.
