Ermita de San Sebastián
The Chapel of San Sebastián is home to the patron saint of the town of Padul. It was built in the 18th century by the local inhabitants in gratitude for having saved them from the plague epidemic which ravaged the region and from which El Padul was spared. In gratitude they made a solemn vow to fast, dedicate prayers and make a solemn procession on the saint's day in perpetuity.
The chapel has a rectangular floor plan and a single central nave. The high altar has an altarpiece in late Baroque style representing the town's two patron saints. San Sebastián and the Virgen de los Remedios.
This chapel celebrates its patron saint on 20 January, when the townsfolk scour the hills and vales of the district in search of firewood which they use to make bonfires in the streets of the town. Each year this festival attracts thousands of visitors from all over the province, including many returning visitors, to celebrate one of the most important events in the calendar of El Padul together with their families.
