Organic cuisine in the villages of the Alpujarra

It's true that the Alpujarra larder is identified with powerful food, which makes the stomach tremble… although if you visit Granada the pride of the mountains, you'll see that the organic option is also available. As in the south.
Beautiful little farm houses, vegetarian and vegan restaurants with an international flavour, frontier bars with organic hamburgers and restaurants where the highlight is local produce. What more could you ask for? You'll find all these ingredients to tempt you if you spend a few days in our hotels in the Alpujarra. This takes you beyond the tapas culture in Granada, when you climb up towards this region, you'll be able to enjoy healthy food and be committed to the environment, all under the sustainable concept of "seasonal produce". As it really is possible to cook another way, we will offer you a selection of ecological gastronomy in the Alpujarra villages. Take note just in case you come…

Finca La Alquería (Cádiar)
It is referred to in a number of places, and for good reason it is presented as a comfortable rural complex on the southern slopes of Sierra Nevada. Organic farming is one of the strong points of the Finca La Alquería, in the town of Cádiar: The almonds, grapes, figs, olives and fruit trees grown here are a promise that confirm you'll eat well. You can stay in one of the wonderful rooms, with the leaves almost coming in through the window. Try the excellent organic wine, based on the Vigiriega, Merlot, Cabernet - Sauvignon and Syrah grape varieties (you can also visit the area dedicated to olive oil and wine in the Alpujarras). Last but not least, you can enjoy traditional cuisine served in the dining room: various stews, porridge, farmhouse rice, gypsy stews… I bet you're already licking your fingers, aren't you?
L'Atelier (Mecina Fondales, La Tahá)
Mecina Fondales is a district located in the Historic Site of the Central Alpujarra and La Tahá, but preserving typical Alpujarra values. There you'll find a rural house with over 350 years of history: L'Atelier. It's in the Berber style and has a vegetarian restaurant… or vegan rather, as pointed out by your hosts. However, everything is made with local, organic produce as far as possible; they also believe in fair trade. That's what we like to see!
Let's see what you can eat here: seaweed salad, Provençal tabbouleh, curried chickpeas, cauliflower and tofu, organic goats milk kefir… A variety of flavours for a menu that goes from local cuisine to oriental delights.
Restaurante Alcadima (Lanjarón)
A legacy of Andalusian cuisine in the Alpujarra, that is what you'll find at the Restaurante Alcadima. We're talking about a restaurant inside a hotel with character, located in Lanjarón, a town with clean, legendary mineral-medicinal waters and a cuisine based on the Mediterranean diet which here goes hand-in-hand with the Moorish heritage, and the vegetarian option. There is a carefully chosen selection of the best wines and craft beers.
And there's more, as the hors d'oeuvres are local, which is just as it should be: ham, cured loin, mature cheese and home-made pâté. Because in the mountains you need to wrap up warm, in every sense of the word.

Sonora BarBQ (Órgiva)
It's all about globalisation. One fine day in Órgiva, the Alpujarra "·township", a bar-restaurant-bar inspired by the roadside bars of Route 66 suddenly appeared! Now there's a thing! Sonora BarBQ serves Yankee cuisine with a Mexican touch. And you may be wondering, what's organic about that? Delicious hamburgers, that's what you'll find. They guarantee that they're made from 100% organic beef and they already have a great number of fans. Vegetarian options abound in the menu, just like the cars on the mythical road on which the restaurant is based. Music, dinner, drinks… Is that a yes or not?
