Olvera, a gleaming white, picture-postcard town

Olvera un pueblo blanco de postal (18).JPG

Come with us around one of the most beautiful white villages in Spain: Olvera. A trip packed with views and streets that are viewing points in one of the most stunning locations in the Sierra de Cádiz mountains.

Just 130 kilometres from the city of Cadiz, we come to Olvera, a town which is said to be a street, a castle and a church, but… what a street, castle and church! This town is considered the gateway to the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and it is one of the essential villages on the White villages of Cadiz route.

Only a short walk along the Calle Llana towards the church square will suffice for you to learn why, in 1983, it was declared a site of historic and artistic interest.

As you reach Olvera, it is majestic to see the town from a distance, surrounded by olive groves and farmlands, forming that extraordinary mound of little white houses piled one on top of the other, topped off with the stunning church.

And, at the other end, the town, sitting on a rock from which the castle rises up with its keep, still conserved; the popular Paseo de Ronda; and a spectacular tunnel leading to the top of the keep where the views are… what can I say: spectacular.

If there is anything that characterises this town, it is that it is a viewing point in itself. From almost any street in the upper part of the town, you will enjoy wonderful views that appear from street to street and which will amaze you at every turn.

What a delight. With a setting like this, with wonderful views of the Grazalema mountains, exploring every corner of the town becomes almost addictive.

Don't forget that Olvera is at an altitude of no more and no less than 643 metres.

From viewing points such as the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, you will get the sensation that both church and castle are floating on a white cloud of beautiful whitewashed houses.

All this, sheltered by the spectacular Cadiz mountains.

Lose yourself in its Moorish, winding streets.

Give yourself a few minutes for reflection in silent spots where light reigns

Or simply discovering La Almedilla or Barrio de la Villa makes the experience of visiting Olvera an experience that captivates visitors, transporting them to a real picture-postcard of a white Andalusian village.
