Located in the village of Venta los Santos, in the municipality of Montizón, the Plaza Carlos III has the traditional draft board urban planning characteristic of the cities and towns created by the New Towns in the Sierra Morena project. It was created under the protection of the enlightened ideas of Olavide and the project enjoyed the support of the King, Carlos III. The urban planning developed in Latin America also had a strong influence.

It has a quadrangular floor plan and marks the beginning of the Royal Way of Levante, and it includes the historical inn that gave its name to the village and today is home to the Church of El Santísimo Cristo de la Expiración, whose origin is prior to Venta los Santos as a new nineteenth-century township.

From a historical point of view, it seems that here there was once a Roman mansion, Ad Duo Solaria, as testified by an epigraphic inscription, with links to Hannibal's Road. The inn was where Santa Teresa de Jesús made her first stop in Andalusia, as part of the journey she made to found two Carmelite convents in Beas de Segura and Seville.
