The Grape Harvest Festival in Montilla has been declared to be of Tourist Interest. It is held to commemorate the grape harvest in the vineyards of the Montilla-Moriles Designation of Origin.
The festival is a combination of institutional activities and festivities. Each year the organising committee designates an honourable supervisor who is given the keys and will be responsible over the coming year for safeguarding and defending the region's wines.
In the El Gran Capitán neighbourhood, the traditional treading of grapes takes place and this is when the first must of year is obtained and dedicated to the Virgen de las Viñas.
A number of events are organised in the town to coincide with the Grape Harvest Festival; Flamenco Wine Tasting, the Wine and Tapas Festival, the Skilled Craft Worker Competition, an equestrian exhibition, the official opening of the festivities and numerous concerts.
