The Laguna del Jaral Trail is located right on the beach in the Doñana Nature Reserve. This beautiful trail starts at the main road and leads to the Asperillo sand dunes and a cliff whose geological and ecological value led to its declaration as a Natural Monument. The trail consists of sandy paths, which makes walking a bit more difficult. However, it really is worth making the effort to reach the lookout point which has spectacular views over the immense unspoiled beach that stretches out in front of it.
The route starts next to road from Mazagón to Matalascañas. Next to the road there is a lay-by where you can park your vehicle. All along the route there is lush vegetation, endless pine forests and plants that have adapted to the environment by becoming resistant to the sandy, salty winds. The trail is just over 5 kilometres long and takes about 2 hours. There are other trails bordering the cliffs in the area, but they are not signposted.
Because it is located far from any populated areas there is very little light pollution, so it is one of the best places to observe the night sky.
