Town Hall
The Town Hall, former prison and town hall of Martos, municipality of Jaén, is one of the greatest examples of Andalusian Mannerism.
It was built by Francisco del Castillo, also known as ""El Mozo"", in 1557, and declared a Site of Cultural Interest and National Historic Monument in 1931.
This is a building with a square floor plan, erected around a central patio. Its spectacular main façade is what earned it recognition as the true gem of Mannerism. Inspired by the Roman model of Serlio, its main highlights include huge Doric columns adorned with rusticated ashlars, the sculptures of Justice and Prudence (now decapitated), the grand doors, and, above all, its bronze knocker A large coat of arms of the House of Austria crowns the ensemble.
Currently, the former Guildhallis the headquarters of Martos City Council.
