Church of San Amador y Santa Ana

The church of San Amador y Santa Ana is dedicated to the patron saint of Martos, Saint Amador of Tucci, and to Saint Anne. It was built in the 17th century and took more than two decades to complete. 

Sober and simple, the church is in the Baroque style and has an impressive bell tower. 

It was rebuilt by the Devastated Regions Department in 1954, after the Spanish civil war. The main facade is defined by the entrance portal, flanked by ashlar stones and with a semi-circular arch. A semi-circular window above the portal frames a plaster shell. 

The bell tower is square and comprises two stages: the first is smooth and culminates in a moulded cornice, while the second stage, which houses the bells and has four semi-circular openings, pilasters and acanthus leaves above the keystones, culminates in a dome and a spire. 

The interior of the church was originally decorated in the Rococo style but this was lost in 1936 in a fire during the civil war. Today, the church features a nave flanked by side-chapels, a barrel vault ceiling with lunettes, coffered transverse arches projecting over pilasters and a hemispherical dome on pendentives, with geometric decoration in the chancel.
