La Umbría de la Virgen Botanical Gardens
The La Umbría de la Virgen Botanical Gardens are in the province of Almería in the district of María, on the northern slopes in the heart of the Sierra María-Los Velez Nature Reserve. These facilities are part of the Network of Botanical and Mycological Gardens in Protected Natural Areas in Andalusia and display the flora and vegetation belonging to the north of the provinces of Almería and Granada.
The La Umbría de la Virgen Botanical Gardens are made up of two well-differentiated areas:
The lower part is a group of plots with plants with traditional uses (vegetables, fruit trees, dry-crop cereals, aromatic and medicinal plants, etc.), as well as species that are endangered in Andalusia.
The upper part has 3 pathways of different difficulty to enable you to visit the 40-hectare natural garden with indigenous mountain vegetation. Here the different ecological processes that take place in nature are displayed.
