The Falla of San José in Mancha Real is a unique festival in Andalusia that is celebrated annually around 19 March, coinciding with the feast of Saint Joseph. Begun in 1983 by the local guild of carpenters, the tradition has since evolved to become a major cultural event and tourist attraction. Nowadays, it is recognised as a "Festivity of Andalusian Tourist Interest".
The carpenters of Mancha Real devised the celebration to honour their patron saint, Joseph. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Valencian "fallas", they began to build monuments which, after their public display, were burned in a great bonfire. The festival has become increasingly popular over time, attracting numerous visitors and enriching the town's programme of cultural events.
