MVA Provincial Cultural Centre
The MVA Provincial Cultural Centre is housed in what was once the foundling hospital, created by the carpenters' guild in 1573 and called the 'Children of Providence Hospital'.
In 1983 the provincial council of Málaga turned the building into a research centre dedicated to the members of the 1927 literary generation. In 1995 the original project was extended to encompass a broad cultural centre housing all the cultural services of the provincial council as well as the Generation '27 Library.
The centre has a floor area of 3,000 sq m spread across four floors, with the various spaces clearly differentiated according to their assigned use:
-Library: Level 0 accommodates the children's room and lending service. The top floor is given over to rooms for researchers, a video area, computers, and a storage room for special books. The 'Temboury Room' occupies 22 sq m and has a capacity for 2,500 volumes.
- Assembly Hall: located on Level 1 with a capacity for 300 people.
- Historical Archive: with a capacity for more than 20,000 volumes.
- Exhibition Halls: located on Levels 2 and 3, the latter with natural lighting.
- Generation '27 Library: located in the three-story historical building (dating from the 18th century). The ground floor is used for administrative purposes and the 'Litoral Room' is a work space for library users.
- Cánovas del Castillo Library: with a monthly programme of activities.
