Among the diverse neogothical churches that were built in Málaga at the end of the XIX century, this was the only one that was built in the old centre, belonging to the Order of the Jesuits.
Constructed by the architect Warring F. Strachan who took the cathedral of Toledo as a model to integrate Islamic elements that make it more Hispanic. Nevertheless also the cathedral of Burgos and that of the monastery of las Huelgas have inspired the architect.
