Centro de Interpretación del Mármol de Macael
The Macael Marble Visitor Centre occupies a surface area of 250 m2 and takes you through the history of Macael up to the present day.
A living industry with more than 25 centuries of history. Come to Macael to visit the quarries and meet the craftspeople who enjoy worldwide prestige. Proof of this is the recent official declaration of the Valle del Almanzora region to be of craft interest by the Regional Government of Andalusia.
In the interior of the Macael Marble Visitor Centre you will find 22 information panels in English and Spanish, ancient tools, archaeological pieces, models, photographs, an area dedicated to the geology of the area and aspects relating to the ecological-landscape restoration of the tips and there is even a replica of the lions from the famous Patio de los Leones in the Alhambra Palace in Granada. There is a video room and a small shop selling marble articles.
Visits to the centre are self-guided and there is a guide to provide explanations for a minimum of 15 people.
The Visitor Centre also organises guided tours of the quarries and craft workshops.
