Mausoleo del General Narváez
The General Narváez Mausoleum is located in the province of Granada in the town of Loja, the final resting place of Ramón María de Narváez, first Duke of Valencia (Loja, Granada, 1799 - Madrid, 1868).
A soldier and one of the great politicians in the history of Spain, General Narváez played a key role in his time, both as Cabinet Minister leading the Moderate Party, a post which he occupied on several occasions, and in the opposition.
As a governor he was renowned for the firm hand he took in all Spain's affairs.
A man who was always bold, courageous and reckless. He showed great personal courage, extraordinary determination when facing political responsibilities and he was relentless when he felt that fate of his country was compromised.
General Narváez died in Madrid on 23 April, 1868, which led to the swift disintegration of the Moderate Party and his unique manner in dealing with country's affairs.
His mortal remains lie here, in Loja, where he was born.
