Palacio de Telecomunicaciones
The Communications Building in Linares was built in 1920 over what was once the cloister of the Franciscan Brothers' convent, next to the church of San Francisco de Asís.
The current and recently restored Post and Telegraphs Building preserves all of its architectural values. It has a classic façade with Modernist nuances, in Andalusian style, with bars, plasterwork and decorative stucco framed in brick, with motifs alluding to the postal service. It has three sections, with the most striking being the last for its semicircular windows. In the centre of the upper floor of the main façade, we find the Post Office logo with a large clock over it, topped off with a triangular pediment. In the corner, two large lion heads that function as a letterbox are outstanding.
Inside, one can admire the beauty of the impressive polychrome stained glass covering all of the central courtyard, and the large golden lamp made in wrought metal that was typical of the time.
In the Plaza San Francisco, opposite the Posts and Telegraphs Building, there is a large sculpture dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. The marble and sandstone carving is the work of Francisco Palma Burgos.
