The Monterrey Trail - PR-A 35, runs through the Sierra Nevada National Park and Nature Reserve, it is circular route featuring the Andarax River, whose waters feed a magnificent gallery woodland, one of the best preserved in this protected area.
Following its course, we pass through pine and holm oak forests and ancient areas of cultivation. It reaches the Monterrey nurseries and along its route you get impressive views of the Andarax Valley and the Sierra de Gádor mountains
The old Monterrey forest nursery is the highest point on this trail that starts in the El Nacimiento Recreational Area and zigzags up through the dense pine forest along the right bank of the Andarax River. You'll be able to enjoy interesting views of the limestone crags that make up this gorge in the Sierra Nevada Almeria, make out the old route of the hydroelectric channel and look down on the Cerro del Almirez as well as the ravines of the Horcajo and the Aguadero.
