Ceramics Museum in La Rambla
The Ceramics Museum in La Rambla is part of the Vinárea Network of thematic centres on the Montilla Moriles Wine Route, consisting of nine municipalities in the region.
La Rambla is a town known for its ceramic and pottery production and it has made an important contribution to this traditional trade. The Ceramics Museum is located next to the old Torreón del Castillo military tower that contains documentary and graphic remains relating to the pottery trade in the town. The aim of the museum is to show how working with clay has developed over time by studying changes in how the raw material has been worked, technical aspects, forms, functionality and marketing, as well as how pottery from La Rambla was promoted in different historical periods.
The exhibits on display in the museum identify the modern and traditional features of La Rambla pottery and its relationship with the importance of ceramics throughout history and in modern times.
The items that make up the museum's collection are part of the oldest Monographic Pottery and Ceramics Exhibition in Spain that has been held since 1926 to coincide with the festivities in honour of San Lorenzo. An essential feature of the exhibition is an international contest from which the best pieces are added to the museum's collection, so it increases year after year and provides the museum with a certain dynamism.
The museum also organises other educational, audiovisual and interactive activities to teach the visitor all about the magic and creativity surrounding the ceramics industry.
Visits are prearranged by e-mail. The Tourist Office is in the Museum itself.
