Biography
Julián Arcas was born in Almería in 1832 and died in Antequera in 1882 It can´t be emphatically asserted that he was a flamenco guitarist, since he dedicated nearly all his live cultivating classical music However, whilst being a prestigious composer he had the courage to tackle flamenco
He made musical arrangements for many pieces of folklore music for concerts and amongst them flamenco styles, which at the time had not separated from the popular songs His knowledge of classical music helped him adapt determined techniques to the flamenco guitar, which up until then were unknown, such as the arpeggios, tremolos, strumming, dragging, tied notes, fixing beats, developing methods of tonal transport and enriching the compositions in the fields of melody and harmony
Of all his creations the most famous is the 'soleá de Arcas´, a piece which is still in force
