Juan Valencia Carpio was born in the neighbourhood of San Miguel in Jerez de la Frontera the 23rd of August 1892 At first he excelled as a dancer in the festivals in his neighbourhood, but soon chose song In 1912 he went to Madrid to work in Fornos, Villa Rosa and Los Gabrieles, where Miguel Borrull father began to call him Mojama He was a strange man, but this didn´t impede Antonio Chacón admiring him, probably because his style was very similar to that of Manuel Torre He recorded eight records for Gramophone in 1929 accompanied by the guitar of Ramón Montoya However Juan Mojama lived his last days nearly in poverty and had even to sell tobacco to earn a living He died in 1957 in Sevilla
