Biography
José Greco was born in Montorio (Italy) in 1919, but at the age of eight went to live in New York and trained as a dancer in this great American City. At first he learnt in the street and later went to an academy with his sister, where he was noticed and was called to participate in many shows of gypsy character. In 1941 he was called up by La Argentinita and José Greco, and began to dance with her and her sister Pillar López. In 1949 he founded his own company and in 1971 he created the José Greco Foundation for Hispanic Dance Inc in the United States. It should be highlighted that it was he, who took Paco de Lucía to America for the first time and who helped him make contact with Sabicas. Currently his daughter Lola Greco maintains the school.
