Bodegas Lustau
Bodegas Lustau winery is today regarded as an international benchmark for top quality Jerez (Sherry) wines. Its commitment to combining tradition, innovation and maximum quality of its wines as well as its extensive and select range of Sherry has led it to receive many awards.
Bodegas Lustau winery was founded in 1896 by Don José Ruiz-Berdejo. With a modest start: Don José, a legal secretary, worked the vineyards on his property called Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. He aged the wines in his vineyard house and then sold them to large export wineries. He was a storer.
Lustau is the only winery that produces wines in the three cities of El Marco: Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
Today, the main facility is located in Jerez de la Frontera and is called the Los Arcos winery complex. Built in the 19th century, it has six cellars for ageing that date back to various periods. They have a cathedral-like structure, with high ceilings and immaculate sandy floors that maintain a constant temperature and humidity, thus creating the special microclimate required by Jerez wines, and where the finest wines of international renown are aged.
Lustau also has two vineyards in El Marco de Jerez:
-Viña Montegilillo. It has white, chalky soil, perfect for growing Palomino grape. From here we obtain must for the production of Sherry and wine such as manzanilla, fino, amontillado and oloroso.
-Viña Las Cruces. Near the coast. Its sandy soil is ideal for growing Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez grapes that produce sweet wines.
