The Jaén Cathedral was built between the 16th and18th centuries based on the original project by Andrés de Vandelvira.

Its most interesting features are the sacristy and chapter room (Vandelvira masterpieces), the choir stalls, the upper galleries (a series of balconies unique in the Christian world), a relic of the Holy Face of Jesus and statue of Our Father Jesus, the side-chapel and the cathedral museum.

Jaén Cathedral Museum, this is situated inside the Renaissance cathedral, which has the historic-artistic designation. Contents: Sacred art (painting, sculpture, silverware, furniture, ornaments, choir books). There is an excellent altarpiece by Pedro de Machuca and an Immaculate Conception Triumphing over Original Sin by Sebastián Martínez.

When you buy a ticket to visit the Cathedral, not only are you helping with its upkeep, you can also visit the entire church, sacristy, chapterhouse, choir stalls and the old 'pantheon of the clergy', currently an exhibition of religious art.
