It is all that remains of the old Parish Church of San Lorenzo, that dates back to the end of the 13th century or beginning of the 14th century.

In the interior of the tower there is a small chapel decorated with beautiful Moorish tiles and plasterwork. It was declared a National Monument by Royal Decree on 11 October 1877.

In 1981, the General Directorate of Fine Arts ceded the use of the Arch to the "Friends of San Antón" Association, which has been responsible for the corresponding restoration work since then. In the interior, this association organises conferences based on issues involving Jaén.
