Easter Week in Huelva

The city of Huelva lives Easter Week very intensely. From Good Friday to resurrection Sunday its streets fill with expectant people waiting to see the processions of the different brotherhoods, many of which have a long history and tradition. The "processions" are outstanding for the artistic excellence of their carvings, the skilful decorations, the construction of the floats, the embroidery of the cloaks and canopies, etc.
From each of the districts of Huelva, the brotherhoods spend hours parading through the streets before reaching the centre of the city, where they then parade along the "official route", a place of great solemnity and through which all the "processions" must pass. Many people also gather for taking out and returning the images at the churches where the brotherhoods have their headquarters. These are moments of technical difficulty where the skill of the statue-bearers and the overseer can be appreciated, and spontaneous voices appear sing "saetas", one of the most difficult Flamenco styles, which are performed during Easter Week and dedicated to the processional statues.
In short, it is undoubtedly one of the most popular celebrations where faith, art and history join together to leave their mark on all those who witness and experience it.
