The La Platera - Hornos Trail - PR-A 152 links the village of La Platera with Hornos, a town declared to be of historic-artistic interest, where we can enjoy splendid views thanks to its elevated location.

The main feature is the great dam on the reservoir of El Tranco, not only because it can be seen from various sections, but because its construction has shaped the landscape and the lives of the inhabitants of the area since the mid 20th century.

The village of La Platera is one of the many examples of scattered settlements to be found in the region. We leave the village surrounded by vegetable gardens and beautiful holm oaks.

Then the route takes us through the lowest parts of the region bordering the tail of the reservoir amongst forests of Aleppo pines with an abundance of holm oaks and mastics. The main feature of the areas near the water is the presence of tamarisks.

After crossing the GR-144, which is a transhumance route still active in the region, we climb gently through a pleasant landscape formed by a mosaic of vegetable gardens and olive groves, with views over the reservoir and the high peaks of the Sierra de Las Villas mountains.

You should make a stop at an old salt mine which has fallen into disuse, but which in the past played an important role in the subsistence economy of the region.

There is a great deal of wild life, the most attractive being the elegant azure-winged magpie, which is abundant in this area.
