El Gergal
The geographical location of the El Gergal Peri-urban Park, set between the first foothills of the Sierra Morena Mountains and the right-hand bank of the Guadalquivir River, gives the area a range of major natural and cultural attractions, along with varied recreation and leisure options.
The Peri-urban Park has typical Mediterranean vegetation you can walk through, with holm oaks and Portuguese oaks being the main species. There are also pine trees, poplars and cork trees with low vegetation of palmetto and lavender. Huelva and Cala rivers have a wealth of fauna, including different fish species such as lamprey and trout.
On the other hand, close by you will find the waters of the Huelva and Cala Rivers, with the Gergal, Guillena, Cala and La Minilla Reservoirs. The riverbanks here are also the site of the Water Route, which runs for more than 60 kilometres. You can explore the route hiking or on horseback.
Furthermore, there are old railway stations, villages, farmhouses and palaces you can visit on the way.
