History
The megalithic remains of Puerto de los Entierros and the Dehesa de las Canteras indicate that the first human settlements date back to prehistoric times.During the roman domination an urban centre was built. It was later occupied by the Visigoths, who gave the village its name.
At the time of Al-Andalus the village was prosperous and grew from a farmstead into a fortress for the defence of Seville.
The Christian conquest was undertaken by Ferdinand III in 1247.
Sancho IV granted Guillena the privileges of a villa 1286.
In 1319, the king Alphonso XI granted the village a coat of arms as a sign of gratitude for the help it had provided in the defence against a Muslim invasion.
In the 17th century it was sold to Pedro Afán de Rivera and annexed to the domain of Guillena.
