Guadahortuna
65 km from the north of the capital, in an AREA full of history and on the banks of the river Guadahortuna, lies this village. In the frontier with Jaén and on the road going north leads to the Natural Park of Sierra Mágina. In the old town, it is worth mentioning the 16th century Parish Church of Santa María la Mayor, with a Renaissance façade and Mudéjar style coffered ceiling.
History
In Arab its name means "river of vegetable gardens". In the Middle Ages it was a borderline that suffered constant Christian incursions, hostility and robbery on the hands of the Castilian horsemen stationed in Cazorla who would attack the Muslim AREA of Guadix. It was eventually conquered by the Catholic Monarchs.- Max 16
