Grazalema - a white jewel in the province of Cadiz

Grazalema

One of the jewels in the crown of the white villages of Cadiz. Travel to the white village of Grazalema, the wettest one in Spain and recognised as one of the best conserved. Do you feel like losing yourself in its streets?

Grazalema is not only unique countryside in Spain. Grazalema is one of the most beautiful and best preserved villages on what is known as the Route of the White Villages and so much so that it has won the National Beautification and Improvement Award for its policy of care, maintenance and respect for the traditional layout of the village.

These factors, as well as its gastronomy and tourism options, make it amust to take a stroll through its narrow cobbled streets and enjoy its houses with their hanging geraniums and bougainvilleas. A real delight.

Strolling through the streets of Grazalema is like taking a trip back in time.

Its streets breathe atmosphere into the village. A real village, as they've always been.

Typical Andalusian balconies, full of hardy and cascading geraniums in bloom, will make an attempt to surround you as you walk through this area.

And its streets, with their Muslim layout, will take us gradually to the Plaza de España square, right in the centre of the town, where - believe us - it is a true delight to enjoy some quiet tapas at night opposite the lit-up buildings.

To speak of Grazalema is to speak of natureThere is not one spot where it is not present.

The greatest heritage that Grazalema has is, precisely, its surroundings - the Nature Park - with its outstandingly beautiful Spanish fir forests.

The Spanish fir, a Mediterranean fir that is unique in the world, is a relic of the Quaternary period, which is seen in its full plenitude in the mountains of Grazalema.

Its climate is also exceptional, reaching the highest rainfall in all of Spain and with such cold winters that all of its roofs are even turned white.

As for gastronomy, the Sierra de Grazalema is lacking in nothing. This land is home to illustrious gourmets and the art of good eating.

Amongst the most traditional dishes in the Sierra de Grazalema are Grazalema soup and tomato soup, partridge and rice, San Miguel gazpacho, as well as a variety of dishes and roasts such as lamb…

Not to mention the famous Payoyo cheese - one of the best in the world…

Kid or venison - always a good choice wherever you order them…

And, of course, trout with ham - very typical in the Sierra de Grazalema and… simply spectacular.

Come and take an evening stroll through spots that are straight out of a film like this

Watch the golden hour from some of the beautiful viewpoints surrounding the village

And enjoy a night-time stroll through some of its alleyways

Fall in love with a town that is "one of a kind”. Switch off and take adeep breath of the clean air of the Nature Park you are in. Enjoy the authentic village atmosphere and surroundings that are becoming more and more difficult to find.

Take a break and get hooked on these landscapes, its streets, its gastronomy and its people - and you're sure to come back for more. You've been warned!
