Teatro Alhambra
The Alhambra Theatre of Granada, managed by the Department of Culture, is part of the Network of Theatres of the Regional Government of Andalusia. It is located in neighbourhood of Realejo, in a privileged location, right in the historic centre of the city.
Its programme includes all kinds of cultural events: theatre, dance, concerts,… Inaugurated in 1992, it substituted a cinema which, during the 70s, programmed the so-called “art and essay” films. In 1996 it receives the Andalusia Theatre Award granted by the Regional Government of Andalusia. As of 1997, the Regional Government of Andalusia refurbished and then assumed its management.
Contemporaneity in theatre, dance and music, has been and continues to be the hallmark of this theatre, which in 2005 underwent major refurbishment. Since the end of 2007, it offers a programme that is a referent of modernity, cultural crossroads, and border art, with a firm commitment to supporting the professional companies of Granada and Andalusia. It is important to emphasise its programme for educational centres, that brings together thousands of participants.
