This stately house was built in the first half of the 16th century by the Suárez de Toledo family. The state purchased it in 1954 and remodelled it to serve its new functions. Since 1966 it has been home to the collections and services of the Royal Chancellery Archive.

The original layout was respected when it was remodelled. The archive deposit, a seven-storey building adjacent to the house, was built on the site of the patios and gardens. The work area and public service area are located over the three floors of the house.
