Golf for everyone
Golf has no barriers in Andalusia. If you suffer from a disability and you want to learn how to play golf or perfect your swing, you will find numerous specialist facilities here.
Andalusia has various adapted golf schools that give classes to people with disabilities. Located in spots of great beauty, surrounded by mountains or next to the sea, they all have first-class facilities and qualified staff, and offer a range of specific services for this type of public.
If you dream of playing golf, you can make it a reality here. The community has seven adapted golf schools: one in each of the provinces of Seville, Cadiz, Jaén and Almeria, and three in the Province of Malaga. Let's take a closer look.
Seville: RCG Sevilla
Real Club de Golf de Sevilla, in Alcalá de Guadaíra, has gained great experience in the teaching of golf to young people with disabilities in recent years. Its Adapted Golf School opened its doors in 2008 with the clear aim of enabling children to enjoy sport. Courses are designed for children and teenagers with a physical, mental, sensory or organic mental disability and who want tolearn to play golf or enjoy this form of sport.
This course, which is ranked fifth in the list of the best Spanish courses, was designed by José María Olazábal.
Cadiz: La Cañada
In 1982, La Cañada Golf Club (Guadiaro) was founded. This is a not-for-profit sports association that aims to promote the game of golf. Its Adapted Golf School is pioneering, with more than 60 disabled students receiving classes every week.
Of its 18 holes (par 71), nine were designed by David Thomas and the other nine by Robert Trent Jones Senior. This is a course with quick greens, large wooded areas and spectacular views of the Mediterranean.
Jaén: La Garza
The origins of La Garza Golf Club (Linares) date back to the 80s. Given both its location (in natural surroundings) and its design, it is one of the most important courses in inland Andalusia. Its Adapted Golf School offers courses for children and adults with some form of physical or mental disability, and they are given by professional golfers and teachers from the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.
Almeria: Playa Serena
Between a fabulous, unspoilt beach and nine lakes (seven of which are natural), you will find Playa Serena Golf Club (Roquetas de Mar). Its 18 holes are all very varied and interesting, and they require shots of great skill and precision. Among the range of services on this course, one highlight is its Adapted Golf School for Children, which gives lessons to children with different difficulties.
Malaga: Parador de Málaga Golf, La Quinta Golf and Baviera
The origins of Parador de Málaga Golf can be traced back to the beginning of the 1920s and the British royal family. This is one of the oldest golf courses in Andalusia. It is a challenge to veteran players but also accessible to amateur golfers. Located in the municipal area of Málaga, near the airport and the main tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol, it has proven its commitment to adapted sport with its Golf School. In this sense, it is worth mentioning that the course hosted the European Adapted Golf Championship in 2015
Close to Marbella, specifically, in Benahavís, is Quinta Golf, one of the busiest golf courses in what is known as the Costa del Golf. Its Adapted Golf School aims to improve quality of life through this sport and contribute to the social integration of people with disabilities, practising this activity in stunning natural surroundings. Golf classes are given every year from October to June.
Finally, the Adapted School at Baviera Golf (Caleta de Vélez) was born in 2004 thanks to the dream of a group of professionals who wished to grant adults and children with different disabilities the chance to enjoy teaching in this sport. The school integrates children of ANNE (Vélez-Málaga Association for Children with Special Needs). This school has formed a part of the Adapted Golf Schools project of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation since 2012.
