History
Name of Iberian origins which may refer to the mythological shepherd-king Geryon. It may also stem from the Latin word Lerenna. The Arabs called it Gerea.A large number of Roman remains have been discovered, including a section of ramparts, the ruins of what may have been baths or silos, mosaics, ceramics, a bridge over the Guadiamar river and an aqueduct which carried water from Escacena to Itálica. All of this indicates that the Roman settlement must have been a large one.
In the Huerto de Nicomedes, at the entrance of the village, the remains of an early Christian Visigothic temple and necropolis have been discovered.
the Christian conquest was undertaken by Alphonso X, following the unsuccessful attempts by Ferdinand III.
In 1627 Felipe IV sold the village to D. Pedro Cornejo Sandoval.
In the 18th century it became the property of the Bucarelli family and then that of the Queralt family until the abolition of feudal domains at the beginning of the 19th century.
