Centro de Interpretación del Olivar Ecológico
The Organic Olive Grove Visitor Centre is located in the province of Jaen in the town of Génave, and is part of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Nature Reserve.
The organic olive grove, which was the only one in existence from the appearance of olive growing up to the mid-20th century, has now made its reappearance, finding the Segura Mountains an ideal place to delight us once again with this humanised ecosystem, a refuge for flora and fauna, which has contributed to the sustainable development of the Mediterranean peoples for over 5000 years. This Organic Olive Grove Visitor Centre is located in the Sierra de Génave Olive Press, which tells us its story as experienced in one of the most extensive protected areas in Europe, the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas.
The route starts in the main building and is a journey through the culture of the organic olive grove. From the reception area we catch a glimpse of an Andalusian patio, where you'll find the Hall with the history of the last 10,000 years of olive production. The route continues on the upper floor. A mural of the Sierra de Segura organic olive grove accompanies you as the backdrop to the Hall of the Olive Grove Agrosystem, where the importance of practising sustainable farming systems such as the organic olive grove is clearly demonstrated.
The following Hall is an introduction to the different uses olives can be put to and which are very varied and deep-rooted in the Mediterranean culture. Finally you come to the Art and Olive Exhibition Hall, with reproductions of works relating to the olive grove and where videos of the Olive Grove are projected.
