Parque del Pandero
The Parque del Pandero is located in an old estate owned by the Town Hall of Gelves, in the foothills of the Aljarafe ledge, at the northernmost end. The most significant aspect of this green area is the existence of farm animals in semi freedom which makes it delightful for the younger visitors. It has become a local custom to offer them food.
The area also has a large area for barbecues and there are the well-preserved remains of an old aqueduct (16th century). Around this an interesting garden with aromatic plants has been created, which provides a very pleasant and instructive tour for visitors.
The recovery of the area included the restoration of a number different water elements, such as wells, springs, pools, a waterwheel and the above mentioned aqueduct. A part of the farm on the land between the waterwheel and the remains of the farmhouse has also been preserved, maintaining the plant species that have a landscape interest. On the rest of the estate, native species of trees and shrubs species have been introduced to give the area more interest and diversity.
The Parque del Pandero is a chance to enjoy nature and a small village just a few kilometres from the capital city. Nature, history and leisure come together in this carefully tended park for families and visitors to enjoy in all its splendour.
