Located in the district of Gelves, in the square of the same name, Sculpture of Joselito el Gallo is a work by the sculptor Federico Collaut Valera Mendigutia. It is in bronze and represents the matador in an arrogant and victorious pose having completed his work, while the bull lies on the ground with its legs stretched out and mortally wounded. The sculpture also has several reliefs which show the different bullfighting techniques, as well as Joselito's renowned pass called “el quiquiriquí”.

The composition is naturalistic and classical in style, capturing all the details of the action and personality of the matador, and including the finest details thanks to the documentation provided by Peña Taurina Don José y Juan bullfighting club. The figure of the bullfighter weighs 700 kg and is 2 metres high, while the bull is of appropriate dimensions and lies at his feet. It was Antonio Bienvenida who symbolically completed the work, personally placing the "banderillas" on the bull and the sword in the bullfighter's hand.

This monument was raised in 1964 as a tribute to the bullfighter from Gelves on the 50th anniversary of his "alternativa" (official début). The figure of “Joselito” the bullfighter was and is important for the town and is still part of the folklore of the district. To visit this monument is to make a journey from today to the History of Bullfighting.
